Thrilled to announce the WINNER of our Turkish-T Giveaway!!!

Drumroll please....

Madeline of Pennsylvania!!!

Thank you to everyone who entered and shared your fabulous comments and style ideas for Turkish-T and a  BIG thank you to the wonderful people at Turkish-T for providing this adorable gift bag.

Maxi Dress - Forever21
Heels - Christian Siriano for Payless (old), similar here and here
Bag - Chanel
Jewelry - Forever21 earrings (similar here and here), Swatch watch, Barneys (similar here), Assorted David Yurman, Hermes, Cartier

This dress reminds me comfort-wise of something I might find in my mother's closet.  It's what I like to call "pajama fake-out."  I often say that Karen's clothing/style ambition in life is to find appropriate clothing she can wear in public that actually feels like pajamas.

This dress, also available in lavender, is beyond comfortable and still feels stylish and elegant.  It reminds me of the Halston Heritage dress (alternate colors herehere and here) Carrie Bradshaw wore in SATC I (the movie).  I'm already brainstorming all of the ways I can wear it!

Must Have Monday

Gimme gimme gimme.

I love taking a feminine piece like a ladylike white dress and throwing some leather and spikes in the mix.  I think I could even throw my Avril Lavigne belt in this one!

Garden Tomato Sauce

I always buy tomatoes in the summertime...which means I often realize I have an unopened container of grape tomatoes that I need to devour before they go bad.

Gina with Skinnytaste recently shared this recipe for her Garden Tomato Sauce - a quick and easy way to use those tomatoes in a delicious and low-calorie way.  A major recipe selling point for me is few ingredients -- the fewer the better!!  I served this sauce over pasta but I can imagine it tastes just as good over chicken.

1 tbsp olive oil
6 cloves garlic
1.5 lb grape tomatoes, cut in half
salt and fresh pepper
2 tbsp fresh chopped oregano (or fresh basil...I used fresh oregano and basil seasoning)
1/8 tsp crushed red pepper

Warm the olive oil and garlic over the stove until the garlic begins to brown.

Add the tomatoes, salt, pepper and red pepper to the pan and reduce the heat to low.  Let the tomatoes simmer for 15 minutes.

Then add the fresh oregano (and basil if you like) and let it cook for another 15 minutes.

And that's it!! Sprinkled with parmesan cheese and served warm with a caesar salad, I can imagine this dish tastes just as good cold.

Super easy and very tasty....so much so that I might need to buy extra tomatoes at the grocery next time.

In the bottom photo grouping I've tied my turkish towel into a twisted necklace.

You can find tutorials on each here (along with 14 other ways to tie a scarf!).

Hashtag Supes Hain

Can we talk about this?

Where is this kid? Can I be friends with him?  Apparently the snuggie's name is Blue Ivy.

Don't tell Jeremy, he might get jealous.

I can't handle it.  I can recall doing a similar music video replica of N'Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" in elementary school...it may have been a little better than this considering I had bangs and was at least a foot taller than all of my friends.

Just envision Kathleen + bangs + tall & lanky + tube socks + school uniform + gap anorak =

It's pretty amazing I had friends.  I thank God regularly that youtube wasn't around when I was younger...I can guarantee if it had been Kady Truesdale and I certainly wouldn't have boyfriends.

Turkish Towel...as a Cover Up

Swimsuit - Target, similar here and here
Beach Hat - Target, similar here
Cat Eye Sunnies - Forever21
Jewelry - Hermes, Cartier, Assorted David Yurman, Target cuff (similar here and here)

One of my favorite ways to wear this towel -- as a cover up!  I absolutely adore the beach candy stripe -- so clean, fresh and comfortable - and available in over 10 colors!

The basic bath was simply knotted across the chest for an easy sarong-tie.  The beach candy was tied in a knot behind my neck (use the two longest points of the towel) for an open cover up.

Easy breezy...check back tomorrow for more ways to wear a turkish towel!

Turkish Towel...as a Table Runner

I recently teamed up with Turkish T and have been LOVING these adorable towels.  Versatility is one of my favorite qualities in any product - being able to wear something multiple ways is a serious selling point for yours truly.  These are so perfect for summer, affordable, eco-friendly and 100% turkish cotton (I definitely need 100% cotton in this blistering heat).

I loved how easily I was able to lighten up my breakfast table by using this basic bath towel as a table runner.

Check back tomorrow for more ways to wear a turkish towel!

Through obvious similar interests, I have had the pleasure of getting to know the hilarious and talented Cait Doyle, producer of upcoming musical Hot Mess in Manhattan, debuting in New York at the American Theater of Actors for a two-week run beginning August 31 through September 10!

Hot Mess in Manhattan is a high-heeled, low-brow musical comedy following one 20-something woman trying to conquer the big city the only way she knows how: the Way of Carrie Bradshaw. Armed with a score featuring a dozen of musical theater's hottest new composers and one worn-out pair of Blahniks, she confronts her greatest fear: if Sex and the City lied, then what's to become of a Hot Mess in Manhattan?

Cait shared with me that she has been developing this musical for four years, amazed at how many disillusioned girls (like yours truly) actually thought the island of Manhattan and post-college life was going to be very different than what reality handed them...all because that's what we saw on TV when watching our favorite girlfriends -- Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.

An exclusive sneak peak of one of the show's musical numbers, Dear Carrie Bradshaw:
{Favorite line:  "You eat and drink and eat and drink and somehow stay petite."  Haven't we all wondered that about our dear Carrie?}

With a fabulous team behind her (you can see a full list of these shout outs here), the journey is far from over.    The team behind Hot Mess in Manhattan needs our help!!  In order to mount an extended NYC run and begin licensing future regional productions, they need some financial support.

Reasons you should donate:

If you donate, you're helping create a groundbreaking new art...and you are also helping reach lots of other girls who also fill a little ripped off by SATC!

You can find more info on why and how to support the musical here and here.

And don't forget to tweet and facebook to all your best girlfriends to see this show if they're in the area!!!

Tuxedo Vest

Tuxedo Vest - Forever21
Button Front Sleeveless Blouse - Libby Story, similar here and here
Heels - Zara
Bag - Vintage Chanel
Sunnies - Prada
Jewelry -    Swatch watch, Derng chain bracelet, assorted David Yurman, Hermes, Cartier

Gloomy pictures thanks to all of the RAIN we've had lately.  After day 3 I was like.....ok I'm over it.  After day 9 I was like...ok I'll wear my hair in a top knot everyday, that's fine.  My car-to-umbrella and umbrella-to-car skills are seriously lacking as I always seem to dump the umbrella water in my lap when I sit in the driver's seat.  Am I the only one who is like this?  Totes annoying.

At least this tuxedo vest has distracted me since I'm seriously obsessed with it.  Almost as excited as when I found my tuxedo blazer, mentioned here and here.  Something about the clean and classic look just has me hooked, even though I basically look like Kris Jenner...but I'm ok with that.

PS -- I was featured yesterday on Brains of the Outfit - check it out here

Hamburger Sliders

Years ago I found a Weight Watchers recipe for ranch turkey burgers and I was instantly addicted!!  Recently I've given these burgers a little twist.  Like most girls, I love finger food and anything "mini," so I made them into adorable little sliders.

Ranch Turkey Burgers

1 package of extra-lean ground turkey
1/2 packet of dry ranch dressing
Chopped red onion
Chopped shredded carrots
Chopped red bell pepper

Spray a skillet with cooking spray and plop 4 to 5 mini burgers on the skillet.  Keep the heat on medium-high, flipping the burgers once the bottom turns white.  The chopped vegetables help add moisture to the meat and adds some texture and flavor.  You don't have to use these same vegetables (although the onion is really really tasty), but add something to give it some moisture so the patties aren't too dry.

Now for the best part -- you have to use King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls for your mini buns.  The sweetness of the bread with the hamburger patty....yyyyuuuummmmm.

And that's it!!!  Quick, easy and absolutely delicious, this is my favorite way to add some cuteness to the classic burger.

PS -- THANK Y'ALL for the nicest birthday wishes!! All of your kind words really made the day that much brighter - lots and lots of love to all of you!!!

Birthday Girl

Today I turn 25 and my fabulous grandmother is 85 -- a lucky birthday that I've always shared with my Grammy whenever I've had the chance {because we all know I'm her favorite...siblings, cousins...are you reading this? Sorry I'm not sorry} and this year is one of the good ones.  Lucky me!!

Patrick (brother), Grammy, myself -- summer 2011 in Greenwood.

CHBoo plays the piano for Grammy, which is extra exciting for her considering she's had a piano for 40+ years yet no one can play.

I really hope I get this monogram necklace and these baby pandas I asked for.  Crossing my fingers!

Chambray on Red

Chambray Shirt - Forever21
Red Denim - Hybrid & Company, similar here
Heels - Zara
Clutch - Vintage (old, from jr. high -- yes, jr. high)
Sunnies - Ray Ban
Jewelry - Hermes, Assorted David Yurman, Swatch watch, Forever21 (similar here and here), Cartier, Derng

What?  This outfit looks familiar because it's now staring at you on the home page?  Just another fun web addition thanks to the talented Caroline of Between Your Ears.  Caroline has helped me redesign this entire blog and I. AM. SO. AMAZED. BY. HER.  She is so talented and easy to work with.  AND she never tells me "you are so annoying, can you leave me alone for, like, 5 minutes?"  When I know I've asked her 8,000 questions, 7,950 of them being dumb.  Caroline also has amazing taste (which is obvious by her blog) and her home is featured on The Everygirl -- check it out here!

As for the outfit -- I won't lie, a chambray shirt is one trend I thought I would never embrace.  Bringing back denim on anything other than pants is something I had a hard time considering attractive.  However I've been eating my words for several months as I rock not one but TWO chambray shirts that have joined my closet.  Whoops -- never say never!!  You never know, this time next year I could be talking about how my new skort is rocking my world.  And I DO have some of those from the late 90's I might be able to pull out...I was like, 5'5" in the sixth grade, let it go.
